Gilberto โ€œZurdoโ€ Ramirez, with his trademark black cowboy hat on his head and a big smile on his face, was understandably quite pleased with the performance he had just turned in on Saturday night.

โ€œIโ€™m back. โ€˜Zurdoโ€™ Ramirez is back,โ€ he declared.

Indeed, Ramirez turned in a strong performance in a unanimous decision victory over Joe Smith Jr., winning their WBA cruiserweight title eliminator for the No. 2 position by surprisingly wide scores of 99-91 on all three scorecards in the Golden Boy Promotions main event on DAZN at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

โ€œThis is a new beginning for me,โ€ Ramirez said. โ€œI came back stronger, faster and I came forward. I was a lot smarter in the ring. I think it was a great performance for me. I donโ€™t have anything to say except thank you, Joe Smith. I think heโ€™s a great fighter and tough opponent. I wish him nothing but the best. We had to take care of business in the ring but out of the ring we can be friends.โ€
